MAY

5/2/2014
Green & Clean and Green Fair

On the first Friday of May each year, Downtown Akron is overrun with volunteers clad in "safety green" shirts putting a deep clean on the Downtown footprint. Green & Clean projects focus on making a vibrant impact, going beyond the regular services of the Downtown Akron Partnership's Clean Team. The goal of the event is to engage the community in making our Downtown "vibrant and valuable." During the Downtown Green & Clean event business employees and community members form teams and do projects around their own Downtown property or are assigned tasks within the district. Each team member receives a t-shirt, goodie bag and a lunch celebration.

The Green Fair runs from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. with vendors showcasing environmentally friendly products and free samples.

For additional information on the event, please contact:

March for Babies

When you walk in March for Babies, you give hope to nearly half a million babies born too soon each year. The money you raise supports programs in your community that help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies. And it funds research to find answers to the problems that threaten our babies. We’ve been walking since 1970 and have raised an incredible $2.3 billion to benefit all babies.

This year, 3 million people will join their family, friends and colleagues in nearly 700 communities across the nation. Our volunteers and staff will encourage and support you in your efforts to raise awareness and funds. No matter if this is your first year or your 25th, you can expect the event to be fun, compelling and rewarding.

Atomic Punks, A Tribute to Early Van Halen with Victory Highway

Voted "Best Tribute Band" by LA's "Rock City News" three years in a row, the Atomic Punks have created a national following that continues to grow by leaps and bounds all the time.

In his 1997 auto-biography "Crazy from the Heat," former Van Halen front man David Lee Roth referred to the Atomic Punks as "The best tribute to Van Halen ever!" Dave cemented his admiration and appreciation for the Punks' talents by hiring original axeman Bart Walsh to play guitar on his "DLR Band" tours from 1999-2001. Bart's replacement, Brian Young, recreated Eddie Van Halen's sound and furious guitar playing so precisely, that Dave again looked to the Punks, and took the guitarist out on the road in 2002 for his national tour with fellow ex-Van Halen frontman, Sammy Hagar.

Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony performed a set with the Atomic Punks in Pasadena, CA, and said "I feel like I am back in 1982 performing with the old band!" Anthony added, "The Atomic Punks rock!" Anthony recently joined the band again on stage, at the House of Blues in Anaheim, CA on January 31, 2003. He played nine Van Halen classics with the band.

Nationally syndicated radio host Howard Stern stated on his show, "The Atomic Punks become Van Halen. It's the total experience, they do Van Halen better than Van Halen themselves!"

There is one important point the band always makes clear at their shows. The Atomic Punks don't think they are Van Halen, they simply love to play old Van Halen and it shows in their amazingly realistic, power-packed stage show. No Van Halen tribute band captures the note for note performance and feel of an old show like the Atomic Punks. If you love vintage Van Halen, and wish you could experience and relive the energy the "Mighty" VH created with "Diamond" Dave behind the mic, you do not want to miss the Atomic Punks. They are the ultimate tribute to early Van Halen!

Bruce in the USA, The Tribute to Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band with Zach and the Bright Lights

Bruce In The USA is much more than just another tribute...This high-energy musical experience is a note-perfect and visually accurate recreation of a Bruce Springsteen & The E St. Band show.
Matt Ryan, from the World Famous "Legends In Concert" cast, began playing the Springsteen character in 2000, in the Legends "full scale" Las Vegas show. The great success with "Legends" evolved his character into the Bruce In The USA show.

The band consists of seasoned world class professional musicians, from such acts/bands as Queen/Paul Rogers, Meatloaf, Blue Oyster Cult, Hall and Oats, Joe Cocker, The Ojays, Aretha Franklin, David Cassidy, The Temptations, Slash... and so many more. This high end, powerhouse, band has taken this genre of performance art to a whole new level, making it the World's #1 Tribute to the E Street Band's musical legacy.

The Bruce In The USA show was born on the Las Vegas Strip in the winter of 2004, with its debut at the Aladdin Hotel and Casino's majestic "V Theatre". The show assaulted the senses in a fun-filled and exciting party atmosphere on the Vegas Strip, while suspending disbelief for even the toughest skeptics. They've been met with critical acclaim, from the Stone Pony, Asbury Park, to large theatres, and Performance Art Centers across the country.crowds are on their feet from the first song to the last.

The Machine performs Pink Floyd with Electric Mud

The Machine, America's top Pink Floyd show, has forged a 20 year reputation of excellence, extending the legacy of Pink Floyd, while creating another legacy all their own. Over the years, The Machine has touched the hearts and souls of many, selling out theaters, large clubs and casinos across North and Central America, Europe and Asia. They have also appeared at renowned music festivals such as Bonnaroo, Riverbend, Gathering of the Vibes, Buffalo's Artpark, and Germany's Rock of Ages.

The New York based band focuses on making every show an authentic Floydian experience for their fans. Known for performing a diverse mix of The Floyd's extensive 16-album repertoire (complete with faithful renditions of popular hits as well as obscure gems), The Machine's stellar musicianship, dramatic lighting and video, and their passionate delivery sets them above and beyond the rest. In the classic tradition, The Machine explores collective improvisation paralleling and even rivaling that of an early 1970's Pink Floyd mentality. Their use of expanded theatrical elements and elaborate stage displays continues in the spirit of the later Floyd lineups of the 1980's. The band is also known for recreating entire albums as a part of their show, accepting requests from fans, and for taking an A to Z approach in which one song is played for every letter of the alphabet. Additionally, the quartet has been sharing the stage with full symphony orchestras, including the Atlanta, Detroit, Pittsburgh and San Diego Symphonies.

ZOSO, The Ultimate Led Zepplin Experience with Switchblade Scarlett

In 1995, Zoso was formed to create the most mesmerizing and accurate portrayal of "the biggest band of the 1970's" - Led Zeppelin (Rolling Stone Magazine). Each member was selected to portray both the appearance and playing styles of Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Bonham, and John Paul Jones. Zoso almost immediately developed an outstanding regional reputation and were awarded "Best Tribute Act in California" by Rock City News.
In 1999, Zoso began touring nationally, playing a remarkable 2,400 live performances, honing their show to become one of the most musically and visually rewarding acts in North America. Their passion, musical ability, showmanship and precise attention to detail earned them critical acclaim, name recognition and a large loyal following. The Los Angeles Times hailed the group as being "head and shoulders above all other Zeppelin tributes," and the Chicago Sun-Times declared Zoso to be "the closest to the original of any tribute."
