The City of Akron's 6th Annual Holidayfest and Chriskindl Market at Lock 3 presented by First Merit Bank is full of life and energy again! With the help of local businesses and foundations, we are able to provide our residents with free, wholesome winter-time fun as we have since 2004.
This year Lock 3 is host to local ethnic groups and artists at our Chriskindl Market who will share their goods and products that represent their special holidays with everyone. Three Chemnitz, Germany vendors will return to Lock 3 this year with hand-made items from the Erzgeberge (AIRTS-guh-burg-uh) Mountain area outside Chemnitz.
In addition to the Chriskindl Market Lock 3 offers ice skating, a Winter Farmers Market, A Kinderzone and Santa Claus, The Magical Train and Countdown to First Night.
The city is actively seeking groups willing to sell hand-crafted items representing diverse cultures in the Chriskindl cottages, between November 27 and December 31, Thursdays-Sundays. Inquiries regarding Lock 3 sales should be directed to the Lock 3 staff at 330.375.2877, or lock3@ci.akron.oh.us. There is no rental fee, however approved vendors will be required to share 10% of their gross sales with an Akron charity - especially those who are serving the neediest during the holidays.

Well-known Akron chef and restaurateur Louis Prpich is responsible for the Chriskindl Kitchen at Lock 3 this winter. Louis is serving his signature soups and sandwiches for the ice skating crowd.
"My daughters and I love the Lock 3 ice rink," says Chef Prpich. "Comfort foods are what ice skaters need, and we'll have plenty of choices for them."
The Lock 3 Menu will include the same Bratwurst sandwich that has been popularized over the previous five Chriskindl Markets. Prpich will also add macaroni and cheese to the menu ($3) and bowls of his authentic chili, white bean chili, and clam chowder ($4). Hot dogs will be available for $2, and sandwich selections will include Roast Pork, Hot Turkey, Wiener Schnitzel, and Portobello Mushroom ($5). Not all items will be available at all times during the festival.
Chef Louis is known to Akron foodies from his time as owner and operator of the Grotto on Merriman and Akron Creative Catering, and the chef at The Office Bistro, Edgar's at Good Park, Misto 1238, and Greystone Hall. Louis is currently the owner of the newly-opened Chowder House Cafe on Chestnut Boulevard in Cuyahoga Falls.
Lock 3 will become a destination for those who wish to help the neediest in the community. Lock 3 will be the city's major collection point for new toys, which will be delivered to more than 150 needy families supported by Akron's Victim Assistance Program and Furnace Street Mission. We will also collect gently-used winter coats and non-perishable food items for the Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank. Collection points are inside the park.
The city has been using old parking meters over the past several years - painted in bright colors and placed downtown - to collect funds for the Haven of Rest Mission and the Salvation Army. This program will be expanded inside Lock 3 for the winter season.
Thank you to our sponsors who have made it possible to continue The 6th Annual Holidayfest and Chriskindl Market at Lock 3.
